3. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
BASIC USE:
Nelson FSP is a firestop product in putty form. It is completely premixed and ready to use and can be hand pressed into place forming an immediate fire seal. When exposed to fire the intumescent material will expand to seal voids caused by deteriorating cable jackets, maintaining the seal and preventing the passage of fire or smoke to adjacent rooms.
COMPOSITION AND MATERIALS:
Nelson FSP is a one-part composition, similar in consistency to glazing putty. Ingredients are a combination of organic and inorganic materials, blended into a hand moldable finished product. It is possible to reuse the same material when adding or changing penetrating items because the putty does not set up. There are no disagreeable toxic or hazardous fumes released during installation, and curing time is not required.
APPLICABLE STANDARDS:
UL 1479, Fire Tests of Through-Penetration Firestops. ASTM E-814, Fire Tests of Through-Penetration Fire Stops. ASTM E-119, Fire Tests of Building Construction and Materials.
APPLICABLE CODES:
Nelson FSP meets the requirements of all three model building codes (National Building Code, Uniform Building Code, Standard Building Code), as well as the National Electrical Code, the Life Safety Code, and most state and city codes. For specific approval information contact Nelson.
LIMITATIONS:
Although Nelson FSP is compatible with most acid and chemical spills, heavy exposure or direct contact with strong chemicals is not recommended.

No special skills or tools are required. To ensure adequate adhesion, all surfaces shall be clean and free of dust, grease, oil, loose materials, rust or other substances. Apply the required depth of Nelson FSP over various backing materials as required. Make sure the Nelson FSP makes complete contact with the inside surface of the opening and also the surface of the penetrating item. The suggested method of installation is hand packing.
